The San Diego Gulls kicked off their road trip against the Tucson Roadrunners tonight at Tucson Convention Center Arena but ultimately fell 2-0.

Despite the loss, the Gulls have still picked up nine of a possible 12 standings points over their last six games (4-1-0-1).

Tonight marks the second shutout from Tucson goaltender Matthew Villalta against San Diego this season, as he also notched a 3-0 win Nov. 30 at Pechanga Arena. San Diego is now 1-3-0-0 against the Roadrunners this season.

Gulls goaltender Oscar Dansk was the lone standout, stopping 22-of-24 shots in his 10th start of the season.

Tucson grabbed the first goal of the night in the opening period and never looked back. There were no goals scored in the second period, and Tucson got one more to open the third.

The Gulls meet with the Roadrunners again this Wednesday at the Tucson Convention Center Arena (5:30 pm PST).
