The San Diego Gulls will once again face the Tucson Roadrunners on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. after falling against to the Roadrunners yesterday.

Tucson reigned victorious 5-2 in Saturday’s match. The game saw outstanding play from both teams, with center Josh Lopina scoring the first goal for the Gulls this game and also his first goal of the season, along with a goal from Jansen Harkins. But Tucson was able to take the win after a four-goal third period.

"I thought we played pretty good in the first period, second period I thought was outstanding…we were down to four defensemen due to injury and also a fight, four to five minutes of that, but that’s no excuse," assistant coach Dave Barr said. "We’ve got to learn to close these games…it’s a good team, they work hard. I think we played well enough to get more results than we got."

Although the Gulls saw an exceptional victory against the Abbotsford Canucks last week, that momentum unfortunately did not follow them into Saturday’s game.

With Calle Clang taking the loss in last night’s contest, it should be Oscar Dansk’s net to close out the two-game set this afternoon. Dansk sits nine wins away from 100 in his AHL career.

"[There’s] stuff that we did good and want to reiterate and things we need to clean up and work on and be better for next game," captain Ryan Carpenter said. "We just have to flush this one, things we need to learn from, and focus on [today] at 4:00."

The Gulls go head-to-head against the Roadrunners again today at Tucson Convention Center Arena before facing the San Jose Barracuda on Wednesday.
