San Diego Set for Final Duel with Texas

The San Diego Gulls have returned home for the closing battle of a four-game series with the Texas Stars Friday night at Pechanga Arena San Diego (7 p.m. PST).
Still fresh off a successful homestand, the Gulls have gotten into their stride on home ice, which will be tested in tonight’s fiery attempt to dim the Stars.
San Diego hasn’t found much luck outshining Texas in their three games this season, coming out on the wrong side of close battles, two of which saw San Diego end with one-goal deficits, one in overtime.
This time, as the Gulls host the Stars in their own building for the first time since November, the team may be catching Texas at just the right time to steal their spotlight. The Stars have dropped their last three games on the road, their latest in overtime.
Following San Diego’s most recent contest Wednesday morning, their first game on the road since the first of the month, the team enters tonight’s duel looking for more detailed play for their final revenge attempt against Texas.
"4-2 in our last six home games, that was a nice homestand for us," head coach Matt McIlvane said. "Good for us to be able to find ways to win on home ice and sets up for a chance for us to respond against Texas."
Tonight’s game kicks off an upcoming three-game set at Pechanga Arena to close out play on home ice for the month of March.
"We like playing at home for sure," center Nathan Gaucher said. "We need to bounce back on Friday, that is one thing, and we have a couple games at home. We need to have some good games at home and feel good about ourselves."
The Gulls next host the Calgary Wranglers for a Sunday matchup on Mar. 24 at Pechanga Arena San Diego (5 p.m. PST).
