It was snowing goals in San Diego tonight, as the Gulls continued their hot streak and took home the win against the San Jose Barracuda 5-2 at Pechanga Arena.
San Diego is now riding a five-game points streak, going 4-0-0-1 in that span while improving to 8-12-1-2 on the season.
To open the game, Yegor Sidorov netted the first goal of the night, assisted by Jan Mysak and Tristan Luneau. This marks the fourth game of Sidorov’s scoring streak, tied for the second longest by a Gulls rookie.
The Gulls scored three consecutive goals in the second period. Luneau and Nathan Gaucher each earned their first goals of the season.
"[Luneau] looked really under control," said head coach Matt McIlvane. "It looked like his movements in the game were calculated, and it probably not a coincidence. This is the day that he gets rewarded with the goal, great goal. Nathan has been trending well for weeks now, and when he was going to score is just a matter of time."
Jan Mysak grabbed a short-handed goal, giving the Gulls a 3-0 lead after the middle frame.
San Jose got one more, but San Diego closed out the night strong. With seconds left on the clock, Sam Colangelo grabbed an empty netter in his first game back with the Gulls after playing a brief stint with the Anaheim Ducks. He has points in six straight AHL contests.
"It literally feels like the harder we work, the easier the game gets," Luneau said. "We get breakdowns and start to cash in on those breakdowns. I think we're playing with some confidence and some swagger out there. So, we have to keep that."
The Gulls embark on a four-game road trip to Arizona and Colorado this week that kicks off with a meeting against the Tucson Roadrunners on Monday night (5:30 pm PST).
