The San Diego Gulls have flown the nest and traveled north to San Jose, where they will face off with the Barracuda tonight at Tech CU Arena (7 p.m. PT; TV: AHLTV on FloHockey; Radio: Gulls Audio Network).
This contest comes in the wake of the Gulls’ loss to the Tucson Roadrunners over the weekend, falling 3-0.
Wins have been elusive for the Gulls, but they aren’t letting that stop their momentum.
"Just because we’re on a losing streak doesn’t mean we have to wear a ‘loser’ logo on our chest," said goaltender Oscar Dansk. "I think you still come to work, and you work to win... It is right there. You can’t do anything but keep pushing and keep pushing, because you also learn a lot from defeats, that’s when you learn the most. Winning is why we’re here.
"It will click. As long as we just keep believing in ourselves, that’s a big one, and just keep coming to work every day with a purpose and just supporting each other."
Tonight’s matchup marks the second time this season that San Diego and San Jose will face off. The Barracuda took the win 2-1 in a tightly contested game on Nov. 13.
"It’s going to be very important that we stick with the motion that they’re going to show us,” goaltending coach Jeff Glass said. "We’ll have a really good chance again...we’re setting ourselves up for another good one."
After tonight’s contest, the Gulls will return to San Diego to play a stretch of four straight games on home ice.
"No better way to get out of a slump than to play a lot of games," said Dansk. "It’s the reps that count, and we’re working at it, working on our systems, and making sure everyone is on the same page."
The Gulls will face the Bakersfield Condors this Friday night at Pechanga Arena (7 pm PST).
