The Gulls gave it their all tonight, but ultimately fell 2-1 in a shootout against the Ontario Reign.

San Diego struck first with a goal from Yegor Sidorov in the opening frame. Tonight, the Gulls hosted Teddy Bear Toss Night. On this first goal, fans sent teddy bears flying on to the ice that will be distributed to local non-profits.

"It’s unreal," Sidorov said. "Good experience. I have never scored on teddy bear night, so it's good… I just needed to hit the net and that's it."

The Gulls held the lead through the second period, which saw no goals.

Ontario tied the game in the third period, as Andre Lee netted his first of the season.

Five minutes of overtime play brought no goals. Ultimately, it was the shootout where the Reign earned the extra point.

San Diego is halfway through their four-game stretch at home. This week, they face the Henderson Silver Knights and the San Jose Barracuda.

"It's a grind," head coach Matt McIlvane said. "Three games, four nights, plus travel…three different opponents. Fast turnaround. But you know what? It was gutsy, and we needed a great goalie today to earn a point. But now it's time to recover and reset."

"That was a big push, and then we get right back up to the standards that we've set that earn us some results."

The Gulls continue their homestead this Wednesday against the Henderson Silver Knights for their first meeting this season (7 pm PST).
