The San Diego Gulls kick off a four-game road trip tonight, this time against the Ontario Reign (6 p.m. PST; TV: AHLTV on FloHockey; Radio: Gulls Audio Network).
Tonight’s contest marks the fifth time these two teams have met this season. Currently, the Gulls hold one win over the Reign.
Last night, the Gulls played an exhilarating game against the Coachella Valley Firebirds but were defeated 3-2 in overtime.
"I loved our start," said head coach Matt McIlvane. "I thought that the first period was excellent, especially the first...I thought that the guys were very detailed, really. We liked a lot of parts about our game. [We] weren't able to finish it in overtime, but there was a lot of good."
There was indeed a lot of good for the Gulls last night. AHL All-Star Sam Colangelo scored his fifteenth goal of the season, and Sasha Pastujov broke records with his 12-game point streak. He is currently leading all Gulls skaters in points.
"…We have to congratulate Sasha Pastujov on an unbelievable streak," said McIlvane. "I think he just set a Gulls record for points consecutive games. I think he's got the League record for this year. So unbelievable for Sasha. We're all really proud of him."
After their battle with Ontario tonight, the Gulls will head to Canada for back-to-back contests against the Abbottsford Canucks this week.
