The San Diego Gulls will look to get the teddy bears flying early as they take on the Ontario Reign for Teddy Bear Toss Night tonight at Pechanga Arena (6 p.m. PST; TV: AHLTV on FloHockey; Radio: Gulls Audio Network).
While it’ll be bears zipping by tonight, last night it was goals zipping by in the third period for the Gulls, as they scored four times in the final frame to earn a 5-3 victory over the Bakersfield Condors.
"We've had a lot of goals that we've been saving up for a moment like this, and it was fun to watch the guys put them in the back of the net," head coach Matt McIlvane said following the win.
The night saw milestones from Judd Caulfield, Roland McKeown and Coulson Pitre, who all scored in the contest. Caulfield set a new single-game career high with 1-2=3 points, while McKeown notched his eighth goal of the season, a new single-season high for the ninth-year blueliner. Pitre scored his first career AHL goal, which ended up being the game-winner.
"We've all been playing well, and it's just something where we were just looking for that one bounce or that one little opening to find a goal, so it's good at that and we’ll carry this one forward tomorrow," Caulfield said.
Calle Clang earned his second straight victory and fourth overall after stopping 22 shots. With this the second of back-to-back contests, fellow Swede Oscar Dansk will likely get the nod in net to close the weekend.
San Diego will get the back half of their four-game homestand next week, beginning with a matchup with the Henderson Silver Knights on Wednesday night (7 p.m. PST).
