The San Diego Gulls faced off the Iowa Wild tonight but ultimately came up short 4-2.
The Gulls couldn’t shake the rust to start their four-game road swing, as they fell into a 3-0 deficit in the opening frame.
Tyson Hinds put San Diego on the scoreboard in the third with his fourth of the season, assisted by Josh Lopina and Coulson Pitre.
Judd Caulfield followed suit to make the game interesting with less than 10 minutes to play. With assists from Ian Moore and Ryan Carpenter, this marks his eleventh season goal.
Tonight saw the AHL debut of goaltender Damian Clara, who joined the Gulls this morning from Karpat of Finland’s Liiga. He was solid in relief of Oscar Dansk, stopping all but one of the 23 shots he faced.
Iowa scored one more at the end of the third period and were victorious 4-2.
San Diego returns on Sunday to face off against the Wild for the second time this weekend (1 p.m. PDT).
