There’s nothing like a Friday night at home.
The San Diego Gulls are back on the ice at Pechanga Arena San Diego tonight for their second duel with the Coachella Valley Firebirds this week (7 p.m. PST).
Tonight marks their fifth meeting of the season. Of four matches played, San Diego has two wins over Coachella Valley, who currently lead the Pacific Division.
Their latest game Wednesday night saw both sides take turns tying up the score in a showdown that ultimately escalated to a shootout, where Sasha Pastujov landed the game-winning goal in a shootout. Pastujov was on fire, as he also recorded the game-tying goal in regulation and picked up an assist on the night.
Andrew Agozzino and Brayden Tracey each scored a goal on Wednesday.
Calle Clang was under fire, allowing only three of 41 shots on the night.
With two battles of the six-game homestand behind them, San Diego has found some momentum on home ice as they kicked things off with a 5-3 victory over the Bakersfield Condors Monday night, snapping a February skid and giving a glimpse into what’s to come as they continue their playoff push.
San Diego’s locker room continues to see shuffling as center Glenn Gawdin and left wing Pavol Regenda were recalled to the Anaheim Ducks Wednesday. Both skaters tallied assists at Monday’s contest and Gawdin recorded a goal.
The Gulls continue the homestand as they get set for their next matchup with the Ontario Reign on Wednesday, Mar. 13 at Pechanga Arena San Diego (7 p.m. PST).
