The San Diego Gulls take on the Calgary Wranglers tonight at Pechanga Arena (7 p.m. PT; TV: AHLTV on FloHockey; Radio: Gulls Audio Network).

This marks the third time this season that these two teams will have gone head-to-head. Calgary took the win in both previous matchups. This time, the Gulls are prepared to play hard and win.

"I think our first game in Calgary we played with a lot of pace," assistant coach Kris Sparre said. "That’s our team game. We were a lot to handle. I think we’ll pull the positives from that first game. We’re tenacious, we’re fast, we’re a lot to handle."

San Diego’s recent game against the Bakersfield Condors was a nail-biter. The Gulls were able to catch up in an action-packed third period, bringing the score from 7-3 to a 7-7 tie with less than a minute left on the clock. They ultimately fell short to the Condors, losing in a shootout.

Although Saturday’s game didn’t produce the results the Gulls were hoping for, they’re staying focused for this game against Calgary.

"I think [the Wranglers] are working hard, playing good in the offensive zone," right wing Yegor Sidorov said. "I think we can battle against these guys."

After an away game against Coachella Valley this Friday, the Gulls will play on home ice for their next seven out of nine games.

"Everyone wants to play at home," Sparre said. "We’re excited to be in San Diego, a great town with a tremendous fan base…it’s time to start seeing some results here. I think if we stick to our process eventually that will start happening for us in a big way."

The Gulls will be without right wing Sam Colangelo, who ranks second on the team in points and paces them in goals. He was recalled by the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday.

San Diego and Calgary will battle it out tonight before the Gulls hit the road to challenge the Coachella Valley Firebirds this Friday at Acrisure Arena (7 pm PST).
