After what was arguably the biggest win of the Gulls’ 2024-25 American Hockey Leagues season, San Diego will look to stay hot tonight as it hosts the Calgary Wranglers (6 p.m. PDT; TV: AHLTV on FloHockey; Radio: Gulls Audio Network).
The Gulls won big against the Tucson Roadrunners last night, a 5-1 victory to shrink their standings points deficit to five points with nine games to play.
"Fun to watch on a lot of different levels," head coach Matt McIlvane said. "I think first star in my mind is Ville [Husso]. He was excellent, especially when we needed him when we got a little squirrely in the second, but it was a pretty stingy game. I felt what they got we gave them with our puck play, but such a concentrated effort by our group and really impressed by the guys."
Calgary comes into town fresh off an 8-2 walloping by the Bakersfield Condors, who sit four points ahead of the Gulls in the Pacific Division standings.
"We just control what we can control," right wing Judd Caulfield said. "Tomorrow we're going to have to come out, have a physical effort against them. They're a big, strong team, and we know we just got to go out there and play a hard 60 minutes and get focused on getting another two points."
After this one, the Gulls will recharge over the next few days before coming back to face the Abbotsford Canucks Wednesday night at Pechanga Arena (7 p.m. PDT).
