The San Diego Gulls are returning home to host the Calgary Wranglers at Pechanga Arena this evening in search of their seventh consecutive win (7 p.m. PST; TV: AHLTV on FloHockey; Radio: Gulls Audio Network).
Over the weekend, the Gulls impressively continued their victory streak to six straight games, defeating the Bakersfield Condors in back-to-back contests. These wins have boosted San Diego’s placement in league standings, propelling the team closer to their hopes of playoffs.
Calgary and San Diego have met six previous times this season, with one of those being a victory for the Gulls. With their current streak, the Gulls are eager to sink the Wranglers for a second time.
"I think it’s been the same focus all year round," said Tristan Luneau. "When we play to our identity and we have a couple things to focus we every game, and when we think about us and bring the best version of the Gulls, it’s been going well for us… [The Wranglers are a] good team, we respect them, but the focus is going to be on us."
Since their last contest, the Gulls have seen some significant changes to their roster. On Feb. 23, the Anaheim Ducks recalled Oscar Dansk from San Diego. They then acquired veteran goaltender Ville Husso from the Detroit Red Wings, who was subsequently assigned to San Diego.
"We’re happy to have him," said Luneau. "It’s going to be nice, to have some experience back there, I’m sure he’s going to do great things for us."
San Diego will play against the Wranglers tonight before back-to-back contests at home this weekend against Coachella and Bakersfield (7 p.m. PST).
