The San Diego Gulls kept the good times rolling and extended their winning streak to six games tonight, beating the Bakersfield Condors 5-4.

It’s the first time the Gulls have had a winning streak of six or more games since the 2020-21 season.

The Condors scored first and held the lead throughout the first period.

Justin Bailey put the Gulls on the scoreboard in the second with his  sixth goal of the year. The contest continued as a game of catch-up with Sasha Pastujov and Ryan Carpenter also netting goals, as the teams traded goals to end the frame 3-3.

Nikita Nesterenko brought the score to 4-3 in the third. With less than five minutes left to play, Bakersfield scored to bring the score even.

No one could find the back of the net again in regulation, forcing the game into overtime.

It didn’t take long for the Gulls to seal it, as Carpenter scored his second of the night to stretch San Diego’s win streak to a half-dozen games, the longest active win streak in the AHL.

"It's nice to contribute, but I just think it's nice to contribute when your team's winning and finding ways to win," said Carpenter.  "I think I play with good players five-on-five. I play with good players in the power play. I think I just benefit from the guys around.”"

"The effort and the camaraderie, resiliency that the guys showed was very impressive today," said head coach Matt McIlvane. "Game could have gone a lot of different ways. And when you go down two guys early, especially in the back-to-back and with the travel and schedule that we've had for them to dig in like that, find a way to get it done, was impressive."

The Gulls return to Pechanga Arena this Wednesday to face off against the Calgary Wranglers as they look to stretch the streak to seven games (7 p.m. PST).
