The San Diego Gulls are going head-to-head against the Bakersfield Condors tonight for a Mardi Gras Celebration brought to you by Palomar Health (6 p.m. PST; TV: AHLTV on FloHockey; Radio: Gulls Audio Network).
Last night, the Gulls came up short just 6-5 against the Firebirds. San Diego gave it their all, and will continue to play as hard as they can.
"We know that every game counts from now on, so it's a playoff push right when we got back from All-Star break," said Nikita Nesterenko. "It's a loss, but we know we've been on a good run here. So just that gives us some belief that that third period that we played well and yeah, hopefully we can get a win against Bakersfield, and then we can just keep it rolling up."
With 20 games left in the season, the Gulls are keeping their heads held high and their eyes on a chance at the playoffs.
"We have a quick turnaround [today]," said assistant coach Kris Sparre. "[We need to] kind of zoom out for a second and look at the body of work that we've done in the last month. We've closed the gap. We were 14 points out originally, and we've cut that in half. And so, if we just keep chipping away at it, we're going to like where we sit come April."
San Diego gets back on the road next week to challenge the San Jose Barracuda at Tech CU Arena on Wednesday evening (7 p.m. PST).
