Gulls Look to Extend Win Streak vs. Condors

The San Diego Gulls are on the road once again to face off against the Bakersfield Condors in back-to-back matchups this weekend (7 p.m. PST; TV: AHLTV on FloHockey; Radio: Gulls Audio Network).   

On Wednesday, the Gulls showed off their star power in a stellar contest against the Abbotsford Canucks, defeating them 5-3 for their fourth straight victory. Coulson Pitre tallied his first multi-goal career game, Oscar Dansk collected an assist, and more.  These examples of the Gulls’ dedication resulted in the Gulls’ fourth win in a row.  

Sam Colangelo also scored one, moving him into a tie for second among all AHL rookies in goals (19). 

The team’s hopes are to keep riding these successes as the team gets closer and closer to playoffs. 

"We have a standing chart in the locker room, we know where we are in the standings," said Colangelo. "There are two huge games coming up. I mean, no matter what level you’re at, when you’re winning, coming to the rink is a whole lot more fun. We’ll still break down the video, find ways to get better, and find ways to get back on track. I don’t think that was our best game, but when you don’t play your best game and come out with two points, you’re doing something right."

The Gulls and Condors have met four times previously this season, where they have split the season set. San Diego has earned points in three of their four matchups this season (2-1-0-1). 

"In one regard, you need to make sure that you have a short memory, because it's all about the next game," said head coach Matt McIlvane. "In the other regard, you can carry some confidence with you as you move forward, like when as a group, when you have confidence, you're fighting to keep it, and that's the mode that we're in right now. We'll stay focused on how we can get better for Bakersfield."

The Gulls return to Mechanics Bank Arena tomorrow night for their second visit with the Condors (7 p.m. PST).
