May 8, 2021

The San Diego Gulls took down the Bakersfield Condors 4-1 in the third period of today's regular-season matchup at Mechanics Bank Arena.

THIRD PERIOD RECAP

Alex Limoges collected his second of the goal of the game at 8:45 of the third period, finishing off a passing sequence to extend San Diego's lead to two.

Limoges started the play, stripping Vincent Descharnais at center ice and leading the rush into the Bakersfield zone. He gave the puck to Chase De Leo, who sent it cross-ice to Andrew Poturalski. The veteran forward fed the puck to the front of the net, where a cutting Limoges deflected the puck past Stuart Skinner for his 10th goal of the season.

The rookie forward extended his point streak to six games, the longest by a Gulls' first-year skater this season. Since signing a PTO on Mar. 25, the former Penn State captain leads American Hockey League rookies in scoring (10-9=19).

De Leo extended his point streak to three games (2-2=4).

Kodie Curran gave the Gulls a three-goal lead with just 2:37 left in regulation, ripping a snap shot to the top of the net for his sixth goal of the season.

With two assists, Poturalski continues his recent hot stretch, collecting his sixth point (1-5=6) in the last three games. The Buffalo, NY native leads the American Hockey League in assists and points (9-31=40).

Benoit-Olivier Groulx also collected an assist, giving him a multi-point night.

SECOND PERIOD RECAP

Jamie Devane put San Diego ahead with his first goal of the season - and first as a Gull - with 4:29 left in the second period.

Jeremy Roy held the puck at the point, firing a long wrist shot on Skinner. The goaltender left a rebound for Devane, who snuck behind Bakersfield's defense and put the puck home with a backhand shot for the go-ahead tally.

FIRST PERIOD RECAP

Limoges opened the scoring, stuffing in a loose puck at the side of the net for a power-play goal with 8:47 left in the first frame.

Benoit-Olivier Groulx carried the puck from behind the net, shoveling a backhand toward the far post. Skinner made the initial save, but left the puck laying in the crease. Limoges alertly crashed the crease and pushed the puck past Bakersfield's goalie for his ninth goal of the season.

Kindopp, who picked up a secondary assist on the tally, extended his point streak to five games (3-4=7).

Devin Brosseau tied the game at one with five minutes left in the first period, banking a shot from behind the goal line past a sliding Lukas Dostal for his fourth goal of the season.

Dostal enters tonight with a 13-8-0 record, a 3.05 goals against average (3.05) and .913 save percentage (SV%). ranks second among AHL goaltenders in saves (662), third in wins and fifth among rookies in SV%.

Skinner is one of the American Hockey League's best goalies, entering tonight's game with a league-leading 19 wins. He also leads the league in saves (678) and is tied for first with Cayden Primeau with two shutouts.

San Diego begins a four-game road trip to end the regular season. Tonight is the finale of an eight-game season series with the rival Condors. San Diego leads the season series, 4-3-0-0, and will look to reverse the trend of home teams winning every game of the season series.

The Gulls and Condors continue to jockey for positioning near the top of the Pacific Division. Entering tonight, Bakersfield is second in the division by point percentage (.643), while San Diego sits in third with a .588 points percentage.
