The San Diego Gulls continued their road trip tonight, this time against the Abbotsford Canucks who took the win 3-2.
In their last contest, the Gulls were victorious 5-4 in overtime against the Ontario Reign.
After a scoreless opening frame, Sam Colangelo kicked it off for the Gulls, putting them in the lead to kick off the second period. Abbotsford tied it up 1-1 not too long after.
The contest quickly became a game of cat and mouse. Colangelo got another goal for the Gulls, marking his second multi-goal game of the season, before Abbotsford tied it right back up.
"I got some nice bounces," said Colangelo. "The first one, I think goals are scored around the net. I try to get to the net front, and I was lucky enough to have it right on my stick..and the second one, I just tried to get pucks on net. And I trust my shot. I think it's probably my greatest asset. It was lucky enough to beat the goalie there. I'm not sure it'll beat him every time, but if you put pucks on the net, good things usually happen."
Abbotsford was back in the lead 3-2 halfway through the third frame, and in the end were victorious.
Justin Bailey recorded two assists on the night, giving him multiple points in back-to-back games (1-3=4).
"I don’t think we have to change much, it’s just results," said assistant coach Kris Sparre. "That’s what we’re all craving. 2-2 game in the third period, you get those chances around the net, let’s finish them. Let’s give ourselves the best chance to win…but in terms of the compete and the effort, I think we’re happy with it."
The Gulls return tomorrow evening for the second night of back-to-back contests against the Canucks at 7 pm PST.
