The San Diego Gulls are ready to challenge the Abbotsford Canucks yet again, this time at Pechanga Arena (7 p.m. PST).
On Sunday, the Gulls beat the San Jose Barracuda 4-2 during Star Wars Night. It was a big night for San Diego – literally. With almost 12,000 fans packing the arena, the team was able to feed off of the energy from their fans’ support.
Justin Bailey recorded a multi-goal night against his old team. The contest also saw goaltender Oscar Dansk’s stellar performance, stopping 25-of-27 shots.
"Oscar’s been great, and you ask anyone but Oscar Dansk, and they’re going to give you a glowing review, myself included," said goaltending coach Jeff Glass. "He’s a first-class human, first-class goalie. I feel he wears the losses really hard, which isn’t always fair. He takes at least his share of the ownership, if not too much, and it’s nice to see him have some success here. When we signed Oscar, we knew we were getting a high pedigree, and it’s shining through right now and I want him to continue to put that best foot forward."
San Diego faced off against the Canucks twice last week, splitting the two-game set. The Gulls are in the midst of a three-game winning streak and are eager to make it four.
"I think they have four lines that can play, and they have a bunch of active [defensemen], and a lot of guys who have gotten to play up top," said Dansk. "They play with a lot of confidence and a lot of speed. We’re going to stick to our game, play up top, stay on top of them and work from our defensive zone up, and take care of ourselves. Every game, every period, you’re just trying to break it down, and do the best every time you step out there."
San Diego gets back on the road following tonight’s contest, where they will challenge the Bakersfield Condors in back-to-back contests, beginning this Friday night (7 p.m. PST).
