The San Diego Gulls will face off against the Bakersfield Condors tonight at Pechanga Arena for Military Appreciation Night (6 p.m. PST; TV: AHLTV on FloHockey; Radio: Gulls Audio Network).
San Diego narrowly lost against San Jose on Wednesday, coming up short 2-1. The first and only goal for the Gulls came from right wing Sam Colangelo, who currently leads all AHL rookies in goals and ranks second in points.
"We played a great game. We certainly had our chances," right wing Carson Meyer said. "There’s been a lot of these one-goal losses it feels like and so I think for us to take that next step we have got to find a way to close these out, at least force a point out of them."
Wednesday night saw the Gulls play strong and hard, with a tie being held until the third period. The team hopes to put this energy into their upcoming game.
"Another opportunity is to bounce back against Bakersfield coming up here this weekend at home. So, we’re thankful to get home. And we’ll stay focused on our next effort, head coach Matt McIlvane said.
Military Appreciation Night will honor active and retired service members alike. Over 1,500 tickets will be donated to local military personnel, and proceeds will be donated to the Armed Services YMCA.
Special perks of tonight’s game include a pre-game tailgate beginning at 4 p.m., a free Gulls Navy-themed hat for the first 8,000 fans in the arena brought to you by Indian Motorcycle of San Diego, specialty jerseys worn by the players that will be auctioned off by the San Diego Gulls Foundation, a raffle for a player-worn jersey, and more.
After taking on Bakersfield tonight, San Diego will have another home matchup against the Calgary Wranglers on Wednesday (7 p.m. PST).
