After their most impressive win of the season Saturday night over the Abbotsford Canucks, the San Diego Gulls now shift to Calgary to face the Wranglers tonight at the Scotiabank Saddledome (6 p.m. PT; TV: AHLTV on FloHockey; Radio: Gulls Audio Network).
The Gulls 4-1 victory over the Canucks on Saturday was led by Jansen Harkins, who posted a season-high 2-1=3 points, including two power-play goals. Harkins co-leads the Gulls in points with six on the young season alongside Carson Meyer, who also had himself a night with two assists.
"It feels great," Harkins said. "I mean, that's what I got to do for this team, is producing and be someone that we can lean on for offense. And obviously just disappointing when we come up short [Friday] and just wanted to have a good outing and just work."
Now entering the second leg of their four-game Canadian road trip, the Gulls will face the Calgary Wranglers for the first time this season. During the last campaign, the Gulls split the series with the Wranglers, taking both games at the Saddledome in February. All four games in the series last season saw one team score five-or-more goals in each game, with three of the four games crossing the double-digit goal total.
"We know we're playing a good team," assistant coach Dave Barr said. "At the same time, we're concerned about what we're doing and how we play. So hopefully we can take a step forward and get a good effort from all 19 of the guys who are playing in the game on Tuesday."
San Diego will have two fresh options in net tonight following the two-day break. Oscar Dansk was outstanding on Saturday, allowing just one goal on 30 shots. His one goal allowed was a penalty shot in the third period. Calle Clang has had a hot start to the season, posting a 2.61 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage through four games, including a 35-save effort in his last start on Friday against Abbotsford.
The Gulls will have one final road game before heading home to Pechanga Arena this weekend, a Halloween night matchup with the Wranglers on Thursday (5 p.m. PT).
