It was all tricks and no treats in Calgary for the San Diego Gulls on Thursday night, as they fell 6-2 to the Wranglers at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

The Wranglers got on the board in the first two minutes after a puck took an awkward bounce off a Gulls skater and past Oscar Dansk and was credited to William Stromgren. It marks the first time this season the Gulls haven’t scored first on the road.

Calgary extended their lead with a power-play goal from Stromgren again a few minutes later.

Sam Colangelo continued his hot streak to get the Gulls on the board in the middle frame, wiring one over Walterri Ignatjew’s left shoulder to make it a 2-1 game. Colangelo now leads all AHL rookies in goals and tied for second in points with 5-3=8. Colangelo has goals in three straight games, a career-high in his young AHL career. Through 12 career AHL games, he is averaging a point per game (6-6=12).

Carson Meyer was given a penalty shot later in the period, but Ignatjew robbed him with the glove to keep it a one-goal game.

The Wranglers reestablished the two-goal lead with five minutes left in the period on a 3-on-1 break that ended on a Clark Bishop goal. They added to that in the third with three goals to make it 6-1.

Carson Meyer netted a consolation goal late in the third, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficeit.

Pavol Regenda earned his team-leading sixth assist of the season. Jansen Harkins, Ryan Carpenter and Nikita Nesterenko also picked up helpers.

The Gulls return home for the first time since the second weekend of the season on Saturday, as they face the Abbotsford Canucks for the first of two games this weekend at Pechanga Arena San Diego (6 p.m. PT).
