Gulls A-Z Player Profile: Alex Dostie

Gulls A-Z Profile: Alex Dostie

Aug 21, 2019

Alex Dostie began his second professional season with the Gulls, but also spent time with the Tulsa Oilers of the ECHL. A native of Drummondville, Quebec, Dostie recorded four points (2-2=4) in 37 games with the Gulls last season with both his goals coming at SAP Center against the San Jose Barracuda.

Back in the 2017-18 season, Dostie made a splash with the Gulls in his debut, scoring his first career AHL goal just 5:20 into his first career AHL game. The rookie forward gained one point in four of his first five games with the Gulls (2-2=4) and registered  3-7=10 points over 41 games in his first season with San Diego.

Where Dostie has really shown his offensive ability has been in his brief time with Tulsa and the Utah Grizzlies (ECHL). The 22-year-old has scored at over a point-per-game pace, totaling 6-7=13 points in 10 regular season ECHL games. Dostie was with Tulsa for the 2019 Kelly Cup Playoffs, where he became one of league’s most productive players.

In 20 postseason games, Dostie finished with 14-10=24 points, ranking third among ECHL leaders and second on Tulsa. Nine of his 14 goals were scored in the First Round against the Kansas City Mavericks, including a hat trick in a Game 7 win. Dostie also helped Tulsa defeat the Idaho Steelheads in the Mountain Division Finals and led the way to a Game 7 against the Toledo Walleye before the Oilers season came to an end.

“(Dostie) is a real competitive kid and he’s having so much fun here,” said Tulsa Oilers head coach Rob Murray after the Game 7 First Round win against Kansas City. “He’s a guy that spent most of the year up in San Diego and was either a healthy scratch or not getting many minutes. He’s really taking advantage of his opportunity and having a lot of fun. He’s just getting better and better all the time.”

Following two seasons of professional hockey and a productive conclusion in the ECHL with Tulsa, Dostie will look to carry that confidence and momentum to the next level in 2019-20.
