Ducks Sign Groulx to Entry-Level Contract
Oct 10, 2019The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club signed center Benoit-Olivier Groulx to a three-year, entry-level contract.
Groulx, 19 (2/6/00), helped lead Halifax of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) to the 2019 Memorial Cup championship final and the 2019 QMJHL President’s Cup championship series. Groulx was named to the 2019 Memorial Cup All-Star Team after earning 1-3=4 points with a +3 rating in four tournament games. The 6-1, 199-pound center also recorded 4-8=12 points in 10 QMJHL playoff games last spring.
Selected by Anaheim in the second round (54th overall) of the 2018 NHL Draft, Groulx has 78-91=169 points with a +30 rating and 196 penalty minutes (PIM) in 198 career QMJHL games with Halifax. The Rouen, France native has appeared in three games with the Mooseheads this season, collecting 2-1=3 points with a +2 rating and six PIM. He currently ranks tied for second among team leaders in points-per-game (1.00). Last season, Groulx set QMJHL regular-season career highs in points (31-49=80), goals, assists and plus/minus (+37) with Halifax.
